Makalu is one of the popular destinations for trekking in the isolated high mountain terrain, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and ethnic villages following unique Himalayan lifestyles. The wilderness of the area takes us deep in the high Himalayas surrounded by abundant flora and fauna that leaves the trekkers mesmerized. The area is a natural habitat for people as well, as the place is devoid of any modern facilities. The region is a great place for exploration and to gain peace and solace in the nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The journey starts from Tumlingtar where a three hour drive is taken is reach Chichila. The trek is full of ups and downs and hardly any plain walking surface can be found. The lower region of the trek is full of lush rhododendron forests, whereas the upper region is comprised of granite terrace and icy glaciers.
Makalu National Park covering an area of 2330 sq. km encloses mountains such as the Makalu (8463m), Chamlang (7319m) and Baruntse (7129m). The national park trekking is a low altitude trekking zone protecting several endangered species. Trekking is done in the Arun valley due to restrictions. Arun valley is beautiful with dense forest, step-like fields and alpine meadows. To reach the Makalu Base Camp, trekkers pass the Arun, Koshi and Barun valleys, through the grazing field of yaks and further cross the glaciers. The scene of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu and Mt.
