Best Time For Poon Hill Trek

The spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons are the best time for trekking in Nepal, as well as the best time for the Poon-Hill Trek.  These months offer the most favorable weather conditions for trekking in Nepal.

The spring season is generally mild, with clear skies and rhododendron forests in bloom all along the trail. During the day, the temperature is comfortable, ranging from about 10°C (50°F) to 25°C (77°F), though it can get cold at higher altitudes, especially in the early morning and late evening.

Another popular time for the Poon Hill trek is autumn. The Weather is stable, with dry conditions and clear visibility. The temperature is so pleasant, which ranges from about 8°C (46°F) to 20°C (68°F) and the skies are crystal-clear which offers excellent visibility.

Both seasons offer stunning views of snow-capped mountains, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Therefore, these seasons are highly recommended for Trekking in Nepal. However, it's important to note that weather can vary and it's always a good idea to check the latest weather forecasts before planning the trip.

Other remaining two seasons Monsoon and Winter are not so far advised to do trekking in Nepal. The Monsoon season (June to August) gets rain and it can cause landslides, leeches, and poor visibility. Another season is the Winter (December to February), it is very cold which causes heavy snowfall, especially at higher elevations, and some of the teahouses along the way might be closed due to unfavorable weather. It is best to stay away from the monsoon and winter seasons.

Therefore, these monsoon and winter seasons are not highly recommended for trekking in Nepal because of unfavorable weather conditions.

Poon Hill Trek Difficulty | Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Difficulty

This is an easy trek in terms of difficulty level and suitable for every type of traveler from beginners to experience and to all age groups. Unlike other treks, it doesn’t have many steep ascents, descents, and rocky trails. Although, the trail consists of various terrains, including dirt paths, stone steps, and occasional steep ascents and descents. Some sections can be slippery, especially during the rainy season or when snow is present. It's essential to have good balance and proper footwear to navigate these terrains safely. Although, it is considered an easy type of trek. It does not require any special fitness except a reasonable level of fitness. Regular exercise, including cardiovascular workouts and strength training, can help prepare your body for the demands of trekking. Building stamina and endurance through training can enhance your overall trekking experience. Usually, if you are physically fit and can walk 5-6 hours per day for about 3-5 days, you can complete it undoubtedly. The highest point of this trek is Poon Hill (3,210 m). This is not an extremely high elevation compared to the other treks in the region. And there is little chance of experiencing altitude sickness such as headache, dizziness, or shortness of breath. Proper acclimatization and staying hydrated help minimize the effects of AMS.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, meet and greet at the international airport and transfer to the hotel. Briefing on the trip. Check into the hotel and rest for refreshments. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel and drive to Pokhara for about 6-7 hours by tourist bus. Check into the hotel and rest for refreshments. In the evening, visit Lakeside and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Fewa Lake and the nightlife of Pokhara. Overnight stay at the hotel in Pokhara.

After breakfast, drive to Nayapul for about one and a half hours, which is approximately 45 km away from Pokhara, and eventually start the first day of the trek to Tikhedhunga on a nice dirt trail alongside a beautiful river stream. The beginning of the trek gives glimpses of the Himalayan peaks, while the rest of the day provides a joyful view of green mountains, surroundings, and quaint villages. Overnight stay at the Tea House in Tikhedhunga.

After breakfast at the tea house, start the trek to Ghorepani. The first part of the trek goes on a steep climb for about 2 hours, then on a gradual climb. The trek on the stone-paved staircase trail is a daring adventure early in the morning. The whole trail passes through villages and forests. After reaching Ghorepani, an up-close view of the magnificent Himalayas can be observed. Overnight at the Tea House in Ghorepani.

Early in the morning, hike up to Poon Hill to see the spectacular sunrise and the breathtaking views of the wide Himalayan panorama stretching from Dhaulagiri (8167 m), the world’s seventh highest peak, in the west to Manaslu (8156 m), the world’s eighth highest peak, in the east, with the mighty Annapurna range in between them. Hike down to Ghorepani for breakfast. After enjoying breakfast, trek to Tadapani, a great place to have up-close views of the Himalayas. It is a pleasant trek through a lush, green forest. Overnight at the Tea House in Tadapani.

After breakfast, trek to Ghandruk, enjoying a beautiful forest of different species of trees and rhododendron flowers. Ghadruk is a traditional Gurung village, a settlement of Gorkha soldiers, and a center for experiences of Gurung culture, tradition, and lifestyle. It provides a stunning up-close view of Annapurna South, Machhapurchhe, and Hiunhuli. This is a stop for lunch and to explore the culture of the Gurung community. Later, trek down to Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara. Check into the hotel and stay overnight in Pokhara

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel and drive back to Kathmandu, retracing the same highway. Check into the hotel and rest for refreshments. Enjoy the free time by shopping at souvenir shops or hanging around Thamel (the tourist hub city). Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Leisure until departure. Transfer to the international Airport to board the flight.
